The universe collapsed
and the world shrunk
to the size of my frame.
I found that my heart
always remained mine.
It reached out,
through my ribs and
past my doubts,
trying separately
to dance with yours;
But it never truly
left these bones.
And when yours inevitably
lost the beat and misstepped
my heart found its way home
to await a stronger partner.
